Xiaomi patents show work on solar-powered smartphone

Xiaomi plans to go beyond wired and wireless charging past allowing a smartphone to juice up using the sun.

Dutch blog LetsGoDigital starting time spotted a design patent filed past Xiaomi that shows images of a bezel-less smartphone that has photovoltaic panels fastened to the back.

The photovoltaic panel is positioned below the rear camera and extends towards the lesser of the phone. The panel's thickness is less than that of the rear camera module, suggesting the new solar addition will not add much bulk to the smartphone.

Since the patent images don't show a front-facing camera, it's possible Xiaomi could include an under-display photographic camera every bit demonstrated by diverse Chinese manufacturers in June.

Similarly, in that location is no visible fingerprint scanner in the patent illustration, which suggests that the feature volition exist embedded under the display.

The patent also shows a dual camera setup with an LED unit in the middle. The book rocker and ability push are positioned on the right side of the smartphone.

Solar-powered smartphones aren't a new idea. Russian accessory maker Caviar released a 'Tesla' edition of the iPhone Ten in May 2018 that featured photovoltaic panels for nearly $6,300. Samsung's Guru E1107, released in 2009, too featured photovoltaic panels on the rear embrace.

The Xiaomi patent was filed with the World Intellectual Belongings Function in July 2018 just remained undiscovered until now. However, patents like these don't e'er become reality. Given the fact that many users are now accustomed to fast charging, solar ability remains an impractical idea, at least for at present.
