If anyone is still having trouble with the Wacom pen eraser function, it might interest you to read this [link]
Let me know if it helps at all or if you can expand on it.

ok, i have 2 new solutions for eraser malfunctions (particularly if the eraser draws instead of erases)
- while starting photoshop press alt+ctrl+shift, you should see a dialogue that allows you to clear photoshop settings
or
- start>rograms>wacom tablet>wacom tablet preference file utility, then click "remove all preference files"

thankyouthankyouthankyouTHANK YOU! Ohh I had the worst problem with my eraser, it wouldn't change sizes no matter what I did. Nothing anyone said helped BUT YOU FIXED IT!
I was getting ready to return it and I was like "what the hell. I've tried everything else'.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

don't have im, but I'd love to be friends. 8D

1. Make sure it isnt the backround (As stated above)
2. Restart PS (Usually works for me)
3. Unplug and plug the tablet back in
4. Fix the pen preferences
5. Restart your comp

tried all of the above, still no luck.
oddly the eraser works in just about everything except adobe programs...

if you're on a background layer in Photoshop, the eraser is just gonna use the same tool ur using with the alternate color.. in order to actually erase u need to be on an overlying layer. hope that helps

Ugh, my BRAND NEW WACOM just came in 2 days ago, it worked fine, now today, just like you, my eraser does not work and neither does the brush preassure sensitivity! This really sucks. How did you end up fixing it? Should i return my tablet?
Reply
Nah, I don't think it warrants returning it - just give it a day or two, reboot your computer and see if it works. It worked itself out for me.

yeah, theres hundreds of people with this problem. it happens completely at random. it IS NOT a preferences issue, ive had to explain that to soo many people. they need to put out a god damned update that will fix this.

this thread seems a little old to be responding to doesn't it?
Necro thread is necro
Reply
No, because wacom still hasn't fixed the problem. Therefor it's quite relevant.

then start a new thread....would you like a bunch of responses to something you posted 5 months ago?
Reply
Yes. If it's still relevant. Watch for that key word guy.

you know what? I don't give a fuck...you want to go around answering old threads go ahead, but remember what is relevant to you may no longer be the case for the original poster.

I'm having the same issue with my Intuos 3. I've tried playing with the Wacom Properties, but nothing's helping. It never had this issue on my other computer, so I'm not sure what the problem is.
Any suggestions for correcting this would be pretty righteous.

Gosh, I forgot I posted this here! I did exactly what you suggested, memoryboy, but nothing was out of whack there. Eventually after a day or two it corrected itself (maybe a computer reboot did the trick?)
Thanks!

Hi guys,
If it's a Wacom, then try going to the Wacom Tablet preference pane (on a Mac it's under System Preferences, I dunno where to find these things on Windows) and click through to the "Eraser" section. There you can change the settings for what the Eraser is supposed to do, in a little pop-up menu. It should be set to "Erase".
Hope this is helpful
